About the Program

D’var Mussar is a program that started in Cheshvan 5779, as an effort to learn mussar every day. 5 minute audio shiurim plus a transcript are delivered to subscriber’s inboxes five days a week, Sunday through Thursday. The maggid shiur is Rabbi Michoel Frank, Marah D’Asra of Ohr Hatorah of Silver Spring MD. (See the Maggid Shiur tab for more info.)

We are currently learning the sefer Derech Hashem of the Ramchal. This sefer defines the basics of Emunah and Jewish belief, and is a classic on par with Mesilas Yesharim and other sifrei mussar of that era. It goes through the purpose of creation, concepts of emunah and bitachon, divine providence and Torah and Mitzvos. The sefer is brief but very deep, and in a few words the Ramchal transmits volumes of information.

The program previously completed the first volume of sefer Bilvavi Mishkan Evneh. Although this sefer was originally published anonymously, it’s author is Rabbi Itamar Schwartz of Eretz Yisrael, who single-handedly sparked a revolution in mussar through his seforim and shiurim. Their appeal is universal because of the simple language, the clear presentation of deep concepts, and the thought-provoking and engaging style of writing. One can access many shiurim and translations on their website, www.bilvavi.net

The program then learned the sefer She’arim BiTefillah by Rav Shimshon Pincus zatzal, which explores the ten different approaches to davening we find in Chazal. Rav Shimshon Pincus zatzal was known for his ability to transmit deep, intricate concepts in a clear and relatable manner, through the brilliant use of mashalim and examples. His fire and energy are apparent throughout the sefer and in all of his recorded speeches.

Past shiurim are available under the audio tab. The nature of this program is that one can join anytime - and now is the time to join!
